Last week, RIT held its largest career fair with 250 employers and 2,500 eager job seekers. A sea of dark business attire and occasional spots of color filled the floor of the Gordon Field House. Lines of students, some ten people long, waited anxiously to speak with employers about co-op or full-time job opportunities. Companies proudly displayed their products and informational material on the tables. With more than half of the companies from out of state, it was obvious to see that the nation’s top corporations were turning to RIT for the future of their companies.
There was truly an opportunity for people of every major or interest. About a dozen companies at the fair were looking at School of Print Media students for co-op or full-time positions. I personally walked around and spoke with representatives of Hammer Packaging, Concord Litho, Japs Olsen, and Hallmark to name a few. I gained a lot of useful information for co-op opportunities, and was even invited back for an interview the next day.
RIT’s next career fair will be in spring quarter, and many of the employers say they will return. I urge everyone to attend the next fair. It is a great opportunity to talk with people working in the print industry. Come prepared with several resumes and look sharp. You never know what kind of possibilities await you in the future.
Additional information about careers and co-ops can be found at RIT’s Office of Cooperative Education and Career Services in building 77, or online at http://www.rit.edu/emcs/oce/.
