This past summer, I spent three months at Peeq Media working on various projects that were heavily oriented around web-development. Peeq offers several publishing solutions for creative needs including digital, wide format, and conventional printing, as well as web-to-print services. Peeq has locations in both Manhattan and Queens, New York.

During my co-op at Peeq, I was responsible for accompanying the Chief Information Officer of the company on business meetings with various clients, understanding their individual needs, and creating tools based on the PHP scripting language. PHP is used to pull information that is stored in a database, and then display the information as html in a browser. This provides users with a unique experience, because the information of a website changes based on specified criteria. PHP is also preferred for most web-development positions, because of its open source nature.

I was fortunate enough to accompany the CIO of Peeq on a business trip to meet with the Director of Design and Development at CBS Outdoor, who was located in the Chrysler building in Midtown New York City. My primary project was to build a tool that acted as a website and would collect data on various printing specifications of outdoor advertising, while keeping the experience of the user in mind. This tool gave CBS Outdoor the ability to synchronize their data across many departments. Their data was previously placed in several different locations, causing inconsistencies and redundancy, which is never an ideal situation. Ultimately, after I had created the tool for CBS Outdoor, I was given the opportunity to present what I had accomplished.

Living up in Rochester all my life and then moving to NYC for the summer was a little overwhelming. The size and complexity NYC is far greater than Rochester. Not only did my co-op teach me more about my career, but it gave e confidence as I mastered my way around the city. I feel this experience has strengthened my character and has prepared me for whatever challenge may come next. Overall, it was a very rewarding experience that I will be able to look back on and be proud of for years to come.
